I need to put my monitor about 4 feet from where it can reach now. I went to Fry's and got a 6 foot extension cable for $10. When I hooked it up I got a shadow effect, and it was really irritating. Did I get a crappy cable, or do all extensions make this shadow?
 
Something is not right. It sounds like the cable is wonky. VGA or DVI cables at 6ft should work well with no issues at all.

I have a 3 meter VGA extension cable connected to my monitor and it has no shadows.

That is not normal. Do you have a picture of shadow?
 
Reset the monitor, deguass it (if its CRT), use the automatic calibration if its LCD, increase the refresh rate if its too low, ya know, try the usual stuff firstl.

Crappy VGA extension cables do that, but even good ones can have some of that effect (just less so.)

It's either due to signal loss and/or bad cable shielding.

I'm going to say it's a crappy cable then because it's a LCD monitor, and when I used the auto configure function, it put the screen WAY off in the bottom right corner. I also tried changing the refresh rate, but did not notice any difference.

I can't throw up a screen shot because I already packed up the cable and am going to return it today. Imagine if your icon names appeared 5 times, offset behind eachother, growing progressivley lighter until they were not visable. Now imagine your entire screen being like that.

It was a belkin and it was $10, I'm going to get the better one for a few bucks more and hope it works out.

What you're describing is a cable without FERRITES. You need to make sure and get a cable with them anytime you buy any monitor cable. Like these at Newegg. See the black cylinders on each end of the cable, those are the ferrites.

If you hear about anyone beating Fry's salesman with a monitor cable, don't worry, it's just me.
