Is the Zalman Vf-700AlCU a better cooler than the stock X1900XT fan? How hard would it be to install for someone who hasn't installed a VGA heatsink before?
If you have never installed a VGA heatsink previously, then you have chosen a good model to gain experience on. The VF700 is very easy with great directions. It will take you longer to remove the existing heatsink than it will to install the VF700.
With regards to your first question, while the VF700 is great, the ALCU is not the best choice for such a hot GPU. You should look at the copper version (CU) only or try to find the new VF-900.
