Veeam backup

Is there a maximum recommended size for volumes to be backed up using veeam, we currently backup around 150 100GB volume a night on our platform with no trouble at all.

We have had a client ask about backing up a 2TB volume using veeam so they don't need to worry about which folders are included in their current backup schedule, is this feasible using veeam, or are there better ways to achieve that sort of thing.

We have ~200 vms with 5/6 being an avg of 5tb backing up to a NetApp San and working great. The only issue sometimes is the occasional handling of snapshots (not properly removing and needing manual consolidation after the backup)

veeam is not an issue but file system is

trying to stay away from refs for now before v2 reborn in 2016 leaves ntfs as the only option

ntfs wants your volumes reasonably small to avoid chkdsk pains

newer version of veeam does scale-out backup repositories so disaggregated targets not even volumes is no big deal

This is supposed to be an issue with the Virtual Disk Development Kit from VMware, and a fix was release by VMware back in February. However, the fix needs to be written into the backup software, so you want to him your support team up for an updated version.

I personally have seen the same issue with EMC Networker 8.1.1.3, mostly backing up Windows Server 2003 VMs through VADP backups and snapshots.

Yeah, the snapshot consolidation issue was fixed. IIRC we had to let the issue produce a few snapshots, then update Veeam, then consolidate. It was a pain in the ass. But since doing that we haven't had an issue.

We backup 1-2 TB volumes regularly.

Veeam supports 16+ TB backup files. We have a Linux server using LVM2 and XFS for the repository and regularly see the full backup files on our end hit 4-5TB right now.
