Ok I had my computer overclocked to a nice 3.0 from a 2.4C with decent temps. But! last week my fan on my heatsnk began to sound like it had a wire or something brushing against it. but I opened it up but nothing was wrong. I cleaned my computer completely out of dust and everything. I put it back together & it still made the noise, then i was just like screw it! I made a coupleof friends look at it, and they said it might be the piece of soder orsomethinghangingdownbrishingup against it. So Itried to take thefan off and fix it. Icouldn't get to it. And I turnedthe fan back on, then the soder came flying off and nailed my friend in the face. Then the fan was off center, but that noise was gone. SoI decided to try and put the fan back together and in the case but this time it made a horrendously loud noise and I got scared and took it back off and put back on the standard heatsink fan that came with my 2.4C.

Question

Could I possibly buy just a new fan? Or should I just go for a completely different heatsink? Because I had to un-overclock because of temps. Any suggestions are welcome.... Thanks!

I am not quite sure I exactly understand what happened to your fan. I know the Aeroflow uses the 70mm TMD fan, so you will have to buy another TMD fan to replace it (I can't think of any other 70mm fans at the moment). The early TMD fan revisions had a problem with overscrewing on the corners, but that just caused fan failure, not the 'explosion' of solder that you are talking about. Could you make a picture or something to show where the solder came from?

I don't have the means for the picture, but it was hanging off the back if a little circut where the power cord comes from. It was this little thing that stuck out. Its kinda messed up.

I would replace it with another TMD fan, but it's your call. If it blows air, i'm happy.

A new fan is cheaper than a whole new HSF, so thats your call. But with a good hsf, you can get insance oc's with teh 2.4, so it might be worth it.

thanks a lot I think I*'m going to order another magnetic one and hope that this one doesn't die...

Yeah, I'd probably suggest that you stick with the TMD fan for the Aeroflow heatsink, as the entire design revolves around the fact that there is a smaller dead zone directly beneath the fan.

OK I ordered the new fan.
And I have now noticed that i no longer have the clamp thing to hold the heatsink to the motherboard.
So does anyone know where I can buy one of these?
Thanks..
