UV Paint Q

Hi.

This is my first time posting here so please be kind.

My question is about UV paint. I want to apply some on my Mobo (like on the capcitors, sinks, pci slots, etc). Will this damage the mobo and if it doesnt, then where can i get some UV paint that I can apply on these small areas? Colours perferable are blue and orange.

Thanks!

OMG!! WTF! J00 N00b! ;)

Had to take the shot! Seriously though, no most paints won't damage components on the motherboard. If you are going to paint your PCI slots I hightly suggest either placing masking tape over the contacts or better yet, put a junk card in the slot when you paint them to keep the paint from driping or spraying on the contacts. You'll find this much easier to do before you install the motherboard ( and a big thank you goes out to Captain Obvious AKA The Mage!)

For paint, here's a decent company: http://svc.com/uvpaint.html
You can also use fluorescent ink pens to draw on the traces of your video card or fluorescent gel ink pens on the cap tops. What might even be easier is model paint like the kind Testors makes for model cars and rockets. You can use a brush to apply the paint SPARINGLY on the cap tops and on plastic components.

Thanks man.

Also, do u know where i can get some Blue and Orange UV paint and ink pens?? Also, should i use a UV spray can or actual UV paint to put over the pci slots, memory slots, etc?

Also thanks for the suggestion for putting tape inside the slots.

for pens, get flourescent highlighters color of your choice

btw, nice pick of those colors, both is my favorite two colors

and you're not supposed to put tape inside the slots, you use tape to COVER the slots

I actually want to paint the slots, so that they glow. For example the PCI and Memory slots. What can I use to cover the slot part? I thought u could put tape together and stick it inside so it doesnt get painted.

That's one way but still dangerous. Take a strip and place it over the top of the slots directly. You may need to trim it so that it doesn't cover the sides.

Aerosal paints work best for larger areas. Use a liquid paint for any fine details and remember to use it sparingly. A little goes a long way and keeps drips from forming.

then paint the slots with a brush instead of spraying the paint

meaning, spray the board with the slots taped down but when you're up to the slots, you take off the tape and paint it with a brush so you control where it goes... sure you might see brushy lines but its such a small area in a case covered with cards i doubt ppl will see HOW its painted on

Thats wat i was thinking. Great.

Do u think florecent ink pens can do the samething. Like use the pen to go over the pci slots, would that work???

Also, im getting the Zalman 7000 Cu heatsink for my processor and i was thinking of painting that too. Only the grill top part. Maybe the florecent ink pens will work there. But since its a heatsink, will the colour chip off?

Thanks!

The pens might work on the slots, but I would recommend spray paint on the top of the heatsink. You're talking about a part that's going to get hot. Most paints are going to peel unless they're high temp paint. The spray paint is the only type that has a prayer of staying from my experiance.

i would suggest to leave the heatsink if you really can but if you MUST make it uv... only do the tips of the fins... maybe the pens will work, i m not sure

spraying it will prevent heat from dissipating

o wait, after i read this post, i realized my previous post was useless

since you're only painting the grill top part... its good... you can spray paint that and the pens will propably work too... i recommend spray tho because its probably a smooth surface and hard to have the pen ink stick on it but paint will stick better because pen ink needs to be dried onto something that soaks the ink like paper... if you do it on a shiny surface, it might end up just pulling a small puddle of ink around

yes, i think flourescent markers will work on the slots but if it cant cover well like i said above, then use a lil bit of masking tape really neatly and cover up the big areas like the side of the slots and paint wit flourescent markers on that

The UV slot covers are the best, even if the slot is in use!
A friend of mine used the slot covers, but cut a slit out of the top of the ones he wanted to use... so they still covered the slot UV AND he had cards installed. Only cut the ones you are using :) Id say he cut about the thickness of a pci card with an exacto knife.. the card fit in nice and snug. Just b careful cutting something that small... my goofball friend cut himself  Worked like a champ though and looked really good! Plus no paint worries :)
