So..I built a new htpc using an old am2 mobo with Athlon x2 64 4800+. The mobo has PCIE x16 bus. I know the PCI express 3.0 is backward compatible but will it be able to display 4k resolution? I wont be gaming on it, just movies.

Btw, anyone know what's up with amazon asus direct cu ii r9 290 or sapphire tri-x R9 290? They were pre-order last week for less than 500 dollars with prime and pre-order is no longer available. My pre-order is not cancelled yet. Does that just mean the pre-order is all filled or amazon will not carry the item? Anyone got prior experience?

i just stuck a r7 260x in my asus ma78 am3 board that board is about 10 years old. no issues here it is a bit slower than it could be i think but it works.
