Using a laser Temp Gun..

I have a laser temp gun lying here, and I'm wanting to get actual temps of my cpu this way.. How do I do it though? Where should I point it at? I can't exactly point it directly at my CPU because the heatsink is in the way.. Can it be done this way?
 
laser temp guns usually just read surface temperatures, so you'd be getting various reading depending on where you [pointed it at you heatsink. I never much cared for laser temp readers, because they can't read "real" temps very well.
