I was just wondering if I could use the item linked above to house my primary hd and still boot my OS from it?

Just thought it would make it easier for me to test Vista and learn/install linux instead of partitioning my current main HD or running some of that virtual software since I don't have the extra free space any way. Just seems the most convenient in my situation.

Sure you can. I've done that many times in testing situations just like the one you described.
 
Great, thanks. Any recommendations on something better then what I picked up top? I'd just like for it to be quiet and not overheat whatever I put in it.
 
Doesn't look like there's too much wrong with it. I would avoid all plastic enclosures for drives but there looks to be a lot of metal on this one so I don't think you could do too much better. Sure there are more expensive ones out there with more bells and whistles but for what it does, that should do it just fine.
