A customer repaired windows XP install on his pc, somehow his user profile was replaced. its default was celcorp, but its been replaced by celcorp.corp somewhat like when you reinstall on without formatting and windows creates .old directories.

All documents, email accounts, and settings are in the previuous profile. If I log as an administrator, can I copy the files from the old profile to the new one and have all the settings restored?

sometimes just copying gets wonky and doesn't always work.

what could you use is something like ForensIT's User Profile Manager

I've used some of ForensIT's tools and they are easy to use and work well. Although I'm not particularly sure on their licensing structure for the freebie products.

you can change the profile SID in the registry. Have a look on google

Or you can just copy everything from the old profile to the new one and delete the old profile.

I had to take ownership of the folders and reset permissions, but I was able to copy everything and its working now.
