I gotta kick my self for not checking but when I got home I opened up the new 4770k I got and noticed something strange.. a finger print dead center of it. I was thinking.. did this happen at the factory? I kinda shrugged it off and then noticed bits of thermal paste.. I flip over the box and sure enough the other side of the box was already open. I think I am going to return it. I went a head and installed it just to verify its not a good overclocker.. my guess is someone already checked that. So keep an eye on your boxes when you get your CPU's!

Weird...I once bought a CPU from MC that was also used (apparently the buyer was smart enough to not damage the Intel seal). The heatsink was used, the stock thermal paste was gone...I returned it as well.

Microcenter just recently started taking 15 day returns on CPU's. Before you could only get a replacement only if defective. I bet alot of people now return them and it's made me wonder if they will show back up as 'open box' or perhaps in your case mistaken for new.
I too have gotten two clearly used, opened CPU's selling as new. Lucky it was easy to see when I went to pick them up. The manager passed it off as an 'honest mistake', I wonder !

Yeah, they had no problem returning it.. and get this.. the new one I got overclocks WAY better.. its from a different batch.. im at 1.25V 4.6ghz right now with no problems.. my last one would not even make it into windows at 4.5ghz 1.25v.

Is there a way someone could "re seal" a processor box? So it looks un opened? I just want to know what to look out for when I buy a processor there or craigslist.

IIRC, the box is just sealed by a sticker. If so one could easily blow dry/warm the sticker for a lil bit and peel it off and preserve the sticker on a non-stick sheet to reapply at a later time.
