USB vs 3.5mm

hey guys I am getting a new headset this week. I am looking at a couple of different ones, some with usb and some with standard 3.5mm jacks. A couple buddies of mine have had trouble getting the mic to work correctly in ventrilo with a usb headset, and I have never had any issue with a 3.5mm connector b4.

So, I guess my question is which way should I go?

I am looking to replace my current because it cant handle the bass anymore which was below avg to begin with. I use an old school Soundblaster live value sound card. As well as my onboard hd audio.
