I have an 8 computer KVM network and my controllling setup uses a 14" Dell LCD Touchscreen and a keyboard. The KVM switches Monitor (15 Pin D-Sub VGA), Keyboard (PS/2), and Mouse (PS/2).

I need a USB to PS/2 adapter so that I can use the touchscreen even though it's USB.

The common green USB to PS/2 interconnects supplied with optical mice and keyboards are not true USB to PS/2 adapters, but rather they rely on hardware built into the mice and keyboards to do the conversion for them.

I am looking for a USB to PS/2 adapter that has the conversion hardware built into it.

I've done lots of searching on Google but all I can find for USB to PS/2 conversion are Y adapters for male USB to 2x female PS/2.

Cliffs:
I need this
USB (Female) ---> Signal converting hardware ---> PS/2 (Male)

Unfortunately those devices don't exist. In order for that to work, the converter would have to implement a full USB host system, with a HID driver, and the proper software to convert all that to ps/2 signals. Just due to the nature of the design of USB it would be considerably more complex than going the other way(ps/2->usb).

There are KVM switches with USB capability. But then again I'm not sure if you are willing to invest in a new KVM switch. Those things are a good chunk of money. Especially an 8port.

Do you know if anyone on the net has tried to make a homebrewed solution for this?

$2000+ is what it would cost for a USB replacement. The type of KVM I need is especially expensive because it needs to support 4 Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor Workstations and have an On-Screen-Display for remote terminal switching (read: ability to change what terminal you are connected to through a keyboard command rather than pressing a button on the KVM).
