I need to back up my T42p so that I can get rid of XP and load debian. I don't want to dual boot, but I do want to xcopy everything that is currently on my hd to another drive. I have an old 40gb, but it is IDE. Is there a company that sells a converter for USB2?

If not, what is the cheapest way to backup 20-25gb of data?

You can get a decent external USB or Firewire enclosure that would suit your needs for ~$30. Linkage. I have a Vantec USB enclosure that has worked fine for me. Another option would be to get a 2.5 - 3.5" IDE drive adapter and throw both drives in a desktop. Can't find on Newegg but maybe someone else can. Here is the linkage to a google search.
