I have usb cables that came with a couple, can't remember if all, of my usb hdd enclosures that have, idk exactly what it is, some type of resistor, or something, the little cylindrical fitting that goes around cable next to plug, and I'm wondering what that accomplishes, and if it's necessary to have.
Can I replace with standard usb cable or is it important?

Thanks,
rlr

All it does is help cancel noise in the USB cable. You can use a regular one.

It's a ferrite core choke. you can buy them separately at monoprice if you really want one.

I may have one from other device, if it's same thing, prob is.
But if regular cable works fine then I'll just use that...
thx,
rlr
