Basically, I'm interested in getting a UPS for my PC. Tigerdirect has this UPS on sale and I'm wondering if it's good enough for what I'm powering.

We do have random power outages. Sometimes the power comes right back on, sometimes it stays off for a while. I only need something around 3 minutes or so I'm guessing to shut everything down, if that.

My guess is generally, UPS's are as good as their price. The higher you go, the better you get. For what I'm looking for, is that CyberPower UPS good enough?

Oh yeah, spec's in sig - primary machine.

225 watts is a bit low, I'd guess. If you're in the middle of playing a game and the power goes out, it won't be able to pick up the load of your video card and CPU running full out. But my suggestion would be to get actual data: buy a Kill-A-Watt and measure your power usage while gaming, and then buy an UPS sized to that load.

Don't forget your monitor/modem/router if you plan on staying online as well.
That UPS might give you a few minutes tops. It doesn't provide any automatic shutdown either. It's designed for more basic devices or appliances.

^This, that 225w might not be large enough for your rig. I had a q6600, nv9800gt, 3 HDD system that was pulling IIRC around 160-180w w/out my dual screens.

What is your budget? That UPS ryang posted would be good for you and will give room to grow in the future, I had these which also tells you what your rig is pulling.

Thanks for the replies guys. After doing a little research trying to find any threads pertaining to UPS's it occurred to me that 225 watts is the max wattage that UPS will put out. I was misunderstanding something there thinking that it being lower wattage may just mean I have less time on battery power than what it would recommend I'd have using a max of 225 watts.

225 watts would be low I think. I've got a modem, router, switch and 27"ASUS monitor I'd like to plug in as well. My budget is pretty much whatever I want it to be at this point within reason. I was hoping ~$40 UPS would do the trick. I'll definitely use the UPS you recommended as a starting point on what I should look for.
