UPS suggestions?

I have a PC running a mobile processor and a PC running a 2500+ Barton that I would like to get a UPS for.

Questions:

1) If I run both PC's on the same UPS, will it completely kill my battery time?

2) How powerful should the UPS be? There are 6 hard drives in the 2 PC's, as well as a FX 5900 and a FX 5200, so, I do have a bit of stuff running here.

3) The average downtime from power outages are 3 seconds or less here, so should i just get a light system that automatically shuts systems down after a few seconds of battery time?

4) If a UPS has 6 power outlets, does that mean all 6 use battery, or just one or two of them and the other 4 or 5 are surge protected? I checked out a bunch of UPSes online, but I didn't find any info about this.

All that I want to run on the UPS: 2 PC's, one LCD monitor, one Motorola Cable Modem.

Space isn't a concern, well, as long as it isn't obsenely large. Heavy might be bad, the floor in this room isn't properly reinforced. :(

Im a newbie when it comes to this, but I recently purchased one.

I bought the APC Back-UPS BE725BB 725VA 450W UPS - Retail from newegg, and it only has half of the plugs will run on the battery....My 450 Watt will barely be enough to backup my 22inch monitor and my computer...

From talking to a network technician, he stands by APC brand UPS', he says he wouldn't trust any other company.

Im guessing with all the power of the harddrives, both computers, lcd, and the cable modem....Your going to need a big som'bitch battery backup ;)

Im bought it for two reasons, I just put down $2700 on my computer and I want to protect my investment and I want enough time to shut the computer down when there is a power outtage.
from the specs of mine, it will only give me about 4mins max to shutdown when used at full power. Another reason I want it is to condition the lines from interference and surges which could cause problems.

If you look at the pictures closely they will have text on the outlets that will say battery backedup.
I wouldn't get anything under 500Watts and it matters how long you want the battery to last. the longest one that I heard of is about an hour or so...also I dont know about putting the UPS in series might work alittle...I dont know how they operate. from the ones i've seen, about half of outlets on them are battery backed.

I would like to hear any of your findings, good hunting

Mike

I've toyed around with APC units when I was still in school. I remember plugging a Pentium 1 based system into one with a CRT monitor, then putting them in a wagon, and having a friend pull it around while we computed in random locations at school. It was our 'laptop'.

Thanks for the calculator. ;) I think I'll get one from newegg that will give me about 10 minutes of runtime for two PC's and one monitor then. :)
