Hello,
I have a AMD64 3500+ processor in a MSI K8N Neo2 board. I recently installed a UPS system (CyberPower CP800AVR) to protect my system from power and lightings issues.
Yesterday I installed the UPS and everything worked great. It even keep me powered up when the main power went off for 60 sec. This morning I decided to add two additional devices to the UPS for protection. I turned the power off on the UPS, but I did not turn off the power supply switch on the computer (I did shutdown the computer using "Start"). I then unplugged the computer from the UPS and inserted it into another A/C receptacle on the UPS. I then power up the UPS and let it do its thing. Then I pushed the front power button on the computer. It started up, but would not Post. MSI indicated the the CPU was damaged (4 red lights). Ouch!
I tried powering down the computer, unplugged it and turned off the power supply on the computer. I then plugged the power cord into the power supply and after a short wait pressed the power supply switch. Same result - 4 red lights. I then reset the BIOS and all that. Still will not POST.
Seems to me that I screwed up by not turning off the power supply before I unplugged the computer A/C cord from the UPS system.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I called CyberPower and told them what I had done and the result. I don't want to make the same mistake again. They told me that I did everything right as far as their system goes.
Thanks.
