Earlier today we had a power cut/blip, it lasted about 5 seconds before everything turned itself back on. My PC's shutdown but my laptop carried on as normal as it has a battery installed.

Why can't you buy batteries like this for regular pc's or have them built into the PSU. Obviously a PC uses a lot more power and could drain them quickly but when there is a 5 second or 1 minute power cut they would be ideal at a fraction of the cost of a UPS.
 
I suspect the reason is cost. That would be a nice feature to have, and it would definitely be possible, but it would also add considerably to the cost of a PSU.
