While the idea of a “package intercept option” sounds really cool, I think just getting your packages on time and undamaged is a bigger priority to most people. It’ll definitely be handy if it works like they say it will.

Package delivery company United Parcel Service said on Monday it has launched a new service allowing customers to intercept or reroute sent packages before they are delivered. "This service allows us to create flexibility and a kind of insurance policy for customers in a world of tight deadlines."

Does that mean that I could "Intercept" my newegg package when it comes off of the plane about 45 min away from home, rather than wait for them to deliver it the next day whenever they get here?? LOL... That's what I call Intercept!

This is awesome. Brown raising the bar.

I'm glad somone is finally doing this, this would be great for sellers who are about to be trolled by somone. Only problem I can see is that somone might ship something to somone, provide the tracking number, and then intercept it.

Other problem I forsee is that somone who has a fraudulent credit card, buys something, has it shipped to the stolen address and then quickly reroutes it at the last minute to their own addy.

I'm a part time supervisor for UPS. The intercept feature really isn't anything new, they've just made it easier. Previously you had to call your local center (if you could get the number) to handle will call, future delivery, and re-routes. Now you can just request an intercept and they handle telling the appropriate delivery centers. The computer systems automatically add the intercept request to the package and then it just comes down to the handler sending it to the right place. Enjoy

The previous method was tedious and was hard to do, sometimes you had no luck. But like you said, this method would make it much more convenient and easier... so thats a great thing.

If I am understanding this correctly, this is only for the sender correct?

This is a decent idea for the dumbtards at my most hated courier.

Maybe they use their turnip sized brains and find out how many of their workers would take a Tuesday - Saturday or Wednesday - Sunday (or some other combination) so that they're delivering packages every day of the week.
That wouldn't give them a gigantic advantage over their competitors or anything.

But hey, it's UPS, and from my all too numerous experiences with them it's become clear there isn't a single person with a brain who is in a position to do anything positive working there.

Just thought of this...

Now Ebay scammers can receive a payment, ship it out, give you a tracking number, then easily intercept the package online and send it to another address of someone who's in on the scam.

How's that for low?

I agree that this sounds more like helping scammers and identity thieves than helping the typical person or company.

I've interecepted several packages and had the rerouted to my dad's house. Never had a problem with it before, But our local UPS customer center's number is in the white pages here :). FedEx on the other hand.... the guys working here coudln't find their if they tried using both hands, much less an address with written directions.

maaaan, they should have Brown trading cards...start keeping track of stats, i.e. packages delivered, attempts, and know...INTERCEPTIONS!

Re-routing won't help scammers. There is still a record of where it shipped.

Yes, but that re-"routed" address doesn't have to be paypal or credit card verified address ;)

Now, if only UPS could manage not to charge massive hidden fees on cross-border shipping they might get my business.

FedEx - No "brokerage fee"
USPS - No "brokerage fee"
UPS - LOLOL $50 on your $80 item.

Crooks.

Save Money

* Enjoy free customs clearance on UPS Express and UPS Expedited shipments
* When UPS is your designated broker for these shipments there is no charge for routine clearance including formal entries for shipments of up to five tariff lines; charges may apply for complex customs clearance procedures
* UPS Brokerage rates are extremely competitive, and there are even more advantages when UPS is both the carrier and the broker

I've ALWAYS been charged with brokerage from UPS, they say they don't but they will.

I just walk out to the boxline during my shift find the package on the boxline, get a property pass mark it as delivered and have it before UPS even starts delivering.

I wondered about that. Nearly a decade ago, I managed to call down to Tennessee and re-route a package that was going to someone whose check had bounced paying for it. At that time, not only was the service incredible, but they were able to tell me I wasn't the first to need to re-route from that buyer. One of the best experiences I ever had with UPS.

I use to work for ups for a year and half and i know a lot of packages get smashed and everything but most of the stuff comes out pretty good ;). I unloaded all your guys packages last year in the Ontario,CA hub ;). Its pretty crowded during the holidays and all. People aren't allow to throw packages and everything but people often step on a lot of packages if they are smashed or wedged into the trailer usually people would do some kicking lol. That goes for most of the shipping places. Its people like u and me that are working there making 8.50 an hour starting, not many people actually care about the person its going to since everything has just a sticker on the box. I handled everything nicely but i've seen people smash and rip boxes and everything. Ups is still good to me though ;). A lot of packages come out great like the smaller ones but once u get to the larger packages people just drop them cuz they are too heavy and all that. Thats why they have good benefits there lol. Just some heads up over there ;). Idk about fedex and usps but i know ups is still pretty good ;)

UPS and the brokage charges is a scam. I work at a customs broker, and I specified that the brokerage, if any, is to be sent to my company, because it would take me all of a few minutes to clear my own shipment. Nope, they went and charged me, and then I got to go on the phone and bitch out the idiot there, who didn't really care and had no clue, but says that all personal shipments are automatically done by UPS.

FedEx Freight is now pulling the same scam. I used to do work for them, up to February of this year, and one of the reasons they changed is so they can just do the brokerage themselves and then charge customers out the ass. So it's kind of like trying to go around a commpanies broker to simply make more money on their own and put other companies out of business. It's just going to end up pissing off customers who are just going to use a different shipping company.

Avoid UPS and FedEx at all costs, worst shipping companies.
