I have the ability to raise my refresh rate. Are there any benifits? I have upped it from 60 to 85 hz, but nothing seems that much changed. Can someone explain when it does besides increase the refresh rate? Something kinda seems different.
 
The refresh rate is the number of times per second the screen is refreshed, so for 60 Hz the screen is being redrawn 60 times a second, whereas for 85 it is being redrawn 85 times per second. Higher refresh rates are easier on your eyes, so it's recommended to use the highest your monitor will allow for a given resolution.
 
When I raise my refresh rate my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 151MP) becomes very blurry.

I thought it may be that I'm raising the refresh rate higher than it can go but I have the option ticked to not display unsupported refresh rates...

Anything below 85hz gives me an immediate headache. Definately run the highest refresh rate your monitor will allow. Running a monitor higher than it is rated for can cause damage, so stick with the presets ;)

That's strange, although on my mom's computer, some refresh rates make the screen shake uncontrollably. I think it's from a dirty AC power supply, because any monitor on any computer in her house gives the same problem. You might want to look into a line cleaner or something. Oh, wait a minute, I just realized you have an LCD; don't change the refresh rate from default on those guys, since they "refresh" on a pixel by pixel basis, the refresh rate is irrelevant as far as I know (response time is what's important there).
 
yeah i think im gonna have to agree with craftish, the refresh rate on a lcd dosent make much of a difference.
 
When I go from 60hz to 75hz on my LCD (Hyundai 15inch 16ms) it becomes much crisper. At 60hz there are blurry spots everywhere...
