i have a quick question, that i probably already know the answer to..

Im running an 8500LE, with the newest catalyst, if i upgrade to another ati card, do i need to reinstall the drivers?

or does the suite have drivers for an entire collection of radeon chips...

i assume i do, but it was just a passing thought,

The catalyst drivers cover the full range of Radeon cards, so you should be OK. However, a driver reload never hurts.
 
You should always reinstall the drivers because there might be driver files that are specific to your new card that weren't applicable to your old one.

I usually reinstall the drivers just to be safe.

I tried leaving the drivers in when I changed over from 9800pro to x800 and it did not work, specifically the control panel would not open. I was forced to remove and re-install the same driver. Try it and let us know if it works for you.
