I've been googling around for this, and find all kinds of opinions. Is it better to pull the local datastore (and the HBA with the SAN datastore), do a fresh install of v5, re-do the minimal config, re-add the datastores, etc... Or do an in-place upgrade instead? I've had people tell me the latter is safe, but I keep thinking if something goes wrong, there goes my info (although I do have the VMs backed up - it would be a PITA to recover them.) What do you all do in these cases?
 
We always do new installs. Takes 5 mins to do an ESXi install. Just disconnect any datastore connectivity to be safe.

that being said, are you on ESXi, or classic?

i: Insert disk. Install.

Classic: Step 1: Sacrifice goat....
Step 2: Dance naked with the blo....

You get the idea? ;)
 
ESXi here. Yeah, it seems pretty simple to re-install. Biggest time consumer is re-doing the VM startup stuff, but that's 5 minutes tops... Thanks!
