Hey all, It's just about time to upgrade my struggling Q9450@3.5 system. It's been lovely to me but I'm looking forward to the new stuff. :) I haven't been paying too much attention to Mobos and things like Gigabytes UD3/4/5H have me totally confused. I'm just looking for something that is a good overclocker and can provide me with enough SATA ports. I'm planning to pick up a 4670K, I don't think HT will be that useful (but maybe you can convince me otherwise?)

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, VMs, Programming, Video Encoding, Emulating(Dolphin)

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
400$, yes.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US, Oregon, Close to Frys but no Microcenter :(

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU and Mobo, I plan on getting the RAM outside of the budget listed, but if you see a nice combo deal or something, feel free to throw it in.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

6x sata at least, more would be nice for the future but not necessary.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes Win7 64-bit
 
One problem: The i5-4670K and the i7-4770K don't have VT-d, which many people use for virtualization.

Is that a showstopper for you?

Which specific HDDs (brand, model, and age) are you reusing? Which will be your primary drive?

unfortunately you need a specific motherboard that takes advantage of VT-d. I don't think any (or many atleast) enthusiast/OC level mobos support this, do they?

Most of my virtualization is pretty light, VT-d would not be worth it for me.

Edit: Oh, somehow I missed your second question, I've got a 6400AAKS for my sytem drive and a 2 500GB 7200RPM seagates that I run in raid 0 for games, and a 3x3TB for raid5 storage. I've been planning to pick up a SSD sometime soon to replace the system drive.

If you can go over your budget, consider the following combo:

$400 - Intel Core i5-4670K and MSI Z87-GD65 combo

The [H] gave a positive review of the Z87-GD65 and praised the board for its overclocking capabilities.

If you want to stay well under budget, go with this:

$362 - Intel Core i5-4670K and Asus Z87-A combo

The Z87-A also received praise for its overclocking prowess.

You need to look at 16GB of DDR3 (1600 or 1866, whichever you can find the best deal on) RAM right off the bat.

Do you have any third-party CPU cooling on hand?
 
I'm thinking I'll go for the MSI Z87-GD65 Combo, it has those extra ports I want and looks really solid. I have an old xigmatek S1283 with a LGA775 bracket, I'm assuming it would be easier to get a new Heatsink/Fan combo? Is the Hyper 212 Evo still a solid choice?

When you decide upon the SSD, consider either the 240GB Crucial M500 or the 250GB Samsung 840 EVO. They offer a nice compromise between price, speed, and available space.
