Upgrading RAM from pc2100

Currently i have 2*512 pc2100 on my Asus A8N7X-D with Barton 2500+.

It doesnt look good when booting and it says "Memory speed at 133Mhz...." when i have a system capable of atleast 333Mhz.

Which RAM speed would be good to put in with the barton and my A8N7X ?

Im NOT overclocking FYI.

How much faster would my system be with faster RAM at atleast 333Mhz instead of the pc2100 i have now ?
 
You have the divider set in the BIOS most likely to run the memory at 133 Mhz while the processor, I believe runs at 166 Mhz. You will get a nice boost in games and other memory intensive tasks if you switch to PC2700 (DDR333) memory and set the divider to 1:1.
 
Well depending on your ram you might be able to set it to run at 166 (333 FSB) I know you said no overclocking...but why waste money on new ram if your existing ram can run at that speed? I have crucial pc2100 and have been running it at pc2700 speeds for 8 months now. All with a Barton 2500 and my msi kt3 ultra mother board.

So manually set your ram speed to 166 in the bios and see if it runs. You really can't hurt anything. Just don't go past 166

Well, already tried, its actually 1 pc2100 and 1 pc2700 stick i have :p
But its both crappy kingston value ram, not even the pc2700 would run stable alone, i could only get it stable at pc2100, so i slapped my other pc2100 in with it now that it couldnt run pc2700.
Its my a8n7x that doesnt like those value ram.

But another question, the a8n7x can run cpu and ram at different speed, couldnt i use pc3200 and set the ram speed in bios at that and keep the cpu where it is.
Ok, the cpu would then become the bottleneck but it would make room for an upgrade of the cpu later on, wouldnt it ?

Could that give speed increase ?
 
From what I read, AMD systems perform best at a 1:1 ratio. But, you could always get PC3200 and run it at PC2700 speeds until you overclock.
