Currently I have 2 EVGA GTX 480's running in SLI. I do like my 480's but heat and noise have always been issues. So I am thinking of getting a EVGA GTX 670 FTW to replace both of the other cards. From what I have read 1 GTX 670 FTW will outperform 2 480's in SLI, which sounds pretty sweet?? At some point I would also go SLI with the 670. So how does this sound for a upgrade from what I currently have??

a 670 ftw is about 40% faster than a 480 so your current 480 sli would easily match or beat a single 670 ftw card unless the game has issues with SLI.

you would save a mind boggling amount of power usage though and have a more consistent gaming experience.

670 sli would certainly be held back by your stock cpu so I would oc it for sure if you go that route.

and you did not list your monitor resolution which really needs to be known here too.
