Hey guys,

Just starting at maybe looking at upgrading my computer. Crysis 2 and Shogun 2 look way too badass to not play them.

Anyways, my current rig is in my sig. What would y'all suggest I look at in terms of upgrading? Budget is slightly low(Lower is better :p) around $500-600. But, I'm going to be recycling my: Case, screen, PSU, HDD, sound card, and anything else possible.

GPU: probably 6850 or 6870.
RAM: ???
CPU: ???
Mobo: ???

Yup. I was looking at something like that but, 2 x 2GB modules and a 2500K cpu. Do you plan to O/C the cpu? the 2500K has an unlocked multiplier. I don't see why you will need 8GB of RAM.

I'd recommend a gtx 460. My 6850 is great but the drivers blow so hard. The lastest drivers cause my card to not wake from sleep, before that there were lots of bugs too (starcraft 2 pylons didn't work was really annoying). I don't know if you want to overclock but you might want to look into spending maybe $20-30 more on the 2500k.

I'd get the 8gb now, ram prices are supposed to rise since the earthquake in japan (or was that nand? I forget), who knows how long it will take to go back to normal, it's so cheap now why not get it.

Grabbed a 6870 already.

Do y'all think it'd be wise to buy something like a Q8300 and use that to hold me over for the next year or two instead of updating?

Hmm

might not be abad idea, I just upgraded from ddr2 to dr3 ram and see almost no difference. You could grab this and upgrade the cpu and wait a while;

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz $149.99 + fs
apparently this can overclock to 3ghz. I would suggest that you update the bios to the most current before you do this though.

then grab one of these,

XFX HD-687A-ZNFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB $209.99 + fs - $30 mir

XFX HD-685X-ZNBC Radeon HD 6850 Black Edition 1GB $179.99 - $20 mir + fs +$10 rebate card

Already bought an XFX 6870.

I haven't had an impulse buy lately, so I'll be biting off on this probably today or tomorrow:
- i5-2500k
- Biostar P67 mobo
- 8 gigs of G.Skill RAM.

:p
