Upgrading My Video Card

I currently have a reference cooler version of the 5850 by HIS. My question is, what would easily be the best bang for the buck upgrade over this GPU? I was looking at the 7950, but god it is still damn expensive. I was going to upgrade my full system by April and was thinking if I should wait for the 78xx series/Keplar before I make any real decisions? And you are wondering, yes $450, for my budget, is too high. Hell, that is worth two i5-3570K CPUs.

I love both nVidia and AMD (had both in the past) so I have no real bias, but I do go usually the best bang for the buck.
 
Best bang for the buck usually comes from AMD from what I've seen and that's how I usually buy stuff too. Well you can wait for the prices to lower after the 78xx cards come out or just buy now and enjoy the updgrade.
 
I would hold out a little longer. see where nvidia and amd (7800's) come out and the price drops. 5850 is still a solid card. heck its technically faster then my card 6850. even then, you might not get that big of a jump in performance without spending alot. The perks of buying a beast of a card early.
 
I was in the same situation. I decided to spend the 130$ to get another 5850 and crossfire. This was months ago, so I'm sure you could find a 5850 for less. I have had no crossfire issues and they feed my 120hz monitor very well. I'd do this and wait until the new nvidia cards come out, and get ONE card from them for 400ish.
 
I have the 5850 and I am holding out for the rest of AMD's card and to see what Nvidia brings about (and how it will influence prices).

Good call. Competition will bring down pricing for both brands. I can't wait to get my hands on a 2gb+ card :)
