I have an 8800GTS 512MB, by BFG.
I was just wondering if i would see a noticeable increase in performance by upgrading to a current generation card. Should i just wait 'till the upgrade is more worthwhile?

please list games you play, monitor resolution, price range you are looking at and any other pc specs you can list to help with this decision

then we should be able to help ya out

I would either jump on a 260, 4890, or 280 and yes you will. You will be able to max out games and see more FPS

when from a 8800gts to a 285gtx. Older games i could boost my aa and af settings. Newer games i could keep a min of aax4. I only upgraded because I got a new game so unless you have game that's not playing to your liking you could wait.

This increase in performance is of course relative to how much you are willing to spend. If you are looking for a 150$+ upgrade then any card above this price point is going to give you a noticeable speed increase. 4870 can be had for 150$, GTX260 180$, 4890 200$ and it just keeps going up from there. I believe the 4890 Is a real sweet spot atm. It provide close to GTX285 Performance for 200$. This card for example would most likely give you 2x the performance as your current GPU. However many factors come in to play that you also have to consider. PSU, Resolution you play at, other system compenents and so on.

I have a 22" monitor. I play 1680x1050 on all games. I just picked up prototype and can't played it maxed, that's why i'm considering upgrading.

The 4890 is really a good card? i had that one in mind...

I would go for a 4890. You can get it for around 150 and compare that to a gtx 275 for 200 or above. I personally would get a 280 instead of a 275 because its cheaper most of the times.
