My 4870x2 just died (red light X-x-x so temp light?) on my second box (Phenom II @ 3.5, 4GB DDR2, Corsair 520HX). Now I'm looking for a replacement for my 4870x2.

What's the highest-end card that only requires two 6 PCIe connectors? I used a 6+2 for one of my connectors to make my 4870x2 work but I'm not really in the mood for a 6970.
 
If my 520HX can handle that card then sure. But I guess since my 4870x2 ran just fine...then a 6970 is fine as well.
 
6970 uses less power than a 4870x2, so yes you should be fine.

I went from a 4870x2 to a 6950 unlocked to 6970, and I like it. Performance really didn't improve all that much fps wise (some games did), however almost every game feels smoother and I definitely enjoy not worrying about crossfire profiles.
 
Yeah the 6970 or GTX570 would be the top dogs. The GTX580 is faster but not by much and definitely not enough to justify being $175 more!
 
6950 should do the trick. I just got the sapphire flex version a few days ago and it unlocked/overclocked to 6970 with no other modifications other than flipping the switch. it has 2 6 pin connectors.
 
I went from crossfired 1GB 4870's to a MSI 6970 Lightning and I'm loving it. I find that average FPS have slightly increased, DX11 support is nice, minimum FPS went up the most (ie 19.xx in Crysis to 30.xx). I'd recommend it for sure.
