im curious what is equivalent or better than 260GtX SLI in the current card market. i thinking running a better single card right now would cool my pc by alot. running SLI heats up my case more than i want. also what are my cards worth since i would have to sell these to help fund a new card.

If you're concerned about thermals I would check out the 5870. Here is a comparison to the GTX 295 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/168?vs=162. Basically a side grade instead of a upgrade, but according to a lot of people the 470 and 480 are much toastier then the 5870.

The 6000 series is around the corner, but you're probably better off selling your cards now. Their value is just going to take a nose dive by the time the one that replaces the 5800 will be out. I bet Barts XT (Juniper XT replacement) will drive Nvidia into a price war with the 460. That puts it right into the area where people are selling GTX 260's right now. Not to mention the massive sell off that will come along when the cards come out.
 
Yes, sell now and just use something else to tide you over until October. At the very least, we'll have some competition and price drops :D
 
im talking about cards that are out now. im not much into pc gaming anymore. but i would like to have at least a single card a step higher than what my 260GTX sli can do. just that fact they are kinda hot having both running.
 
Thats the problem, the 5870 is much cooler but basically a side grade, where as the 480 is the only other single card option unless you go with a 5970. The 480 will be a bit more performance but they run hot as hell. So you only option is to side grade, or wait a couple months for the 6000 series if you want cool
 
I recommend against dual gpu on a single card solutions. The market value is much lower for them, especially on this site.


The 5970 is the last dual gpu card I will buy, cause I took a fuckin bath on it.
