a friend asked me to upgrade his computer, here are the current specs:

amd athlon @1.1 ghz
via motherboard
128mb sdram
16mb nvidia tnt

im thinking of upgrading him to:
amd Xp 2500+
msi motherboard
512 mb kingston hyperx pc 3200
ati radeon 9800 pro

will it be good enough to play a lot of new games on it? id have gim go with an a64 setup except its too much money for him. also, should i charge him extra for labor, since hes my friend? or just keep the old parts?
 
lol if he's really a friend don't charge him...it's only gonna take you maybe 1/2 at most...an hour and a half with loading windows?
 
what kind of hard drive does he want? also, he's your friend so definitely free of charge there.
 
I'd get a gig of ram if he can spend the money. Or at least get him 1 stick of 512 so he can add another later on. Newer games love the memory. And make sure you don't get a SE version of the 9800.

ok thanks i was wondering what you guys would do. his budget is 400-500 dollars, and the ram is one stick. he also already has a 60 gb hard drive, and he doesnt feel the need to upgrade to serial ATA. would it be a dramatic difference in gaming? also its a prebuilt computer so everything else is there already, including the os. ill find exact prices for the items later on and post them.
 
ok here are the prices i came up with for now:

motherboard:

Abit NF7-S - $85 link
Processor:

Amd XP 2500+ - $85 link

Ram:

Kinston HyperX 512mb Pc3200: $143 link

Video Card:

Sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 Pro: $210 link

Total: $523
hes going to hold off on the processor for now, and get it later, so the total for now is $438.
Any suggestions for better parts?

P.S. Im too young to drink beer :p
