ok, so, looking at the system in my sig, what would you say would be the best upgrade i can do right now... i am def. gonna get some ram. i've got some el cheapo ram right now. Would i benefit with getting say just 512mb of PC3200 over PC2700, or would the difference be noticable? i might go with a fast CPU (such as a 2500+ since i have limited finicial resources)

i guess my main question is will going from 256 of pc3200 el cheapo ram to 512 of pc2700 name brand ram make any performance boost? im getting some seriously long hour glasses when doing simple things (i.e. opening mozilla or AIM, or switching applications) thanks in advance

Yeah, all I can think of right now is ram, and I dont know if you are into gaming much, but I would get a really nice speaker system, but that is just me.

yeah, im really into gaming, so once i get some more money, im gonna step up to a better card (9600XT mayber?) I've got some Creative 5.1 speakers right now. they are ok...

Are you ocing? if not - I suggest getting generic RAM... and yeah - difference between 256 and 512 will be more than just noticable...

Having recently participated in some upgrade shennanigans...

256 -> 512 didn't make a whole lot of difference for the most part. When I alt + tab out of games, things are a little smoother, boot is maybe a couple of seconds faster.. otherwise it's not noticeable.

Videocard however would make a whole world of difference. I was donated a second hand 128mb gf4 ti-4200, improved my 3dmark by nearly 600% and game performance was blown out of the water, truly remarkable. Old card was a voodoo5 5500.

Unfortunately my second hand gf4 was second hand for a reason, namely it stops working after a short while. :(

Anyhow, the moral is, having gone from 256mb ram to 512 and from an old 64mb card to a newish 128mb... the card made things literally 6 times faster, the ram did not :)
