Upgrade What should it be?

OK here's the deal
1) Buy a Abit NF7 and new Volcano 11, Then buy a AMD 3000+, THen PC3200 ram.
2) Buy a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 and a AMD Anthlon 64 3200+, then Pc3200 ram.

Which would be the better deal. And im also not trying to spend alot of money.

1) Buy an Asus A7N8X with a 2500+ and overclock that to a 3200+, then buy PC3200 RAM.

This is a great overclocking combo. It will only set you back $175 for the mobo/cpu combo.

good luck!

yes valcano 11+ is good! holy cow how many times i had to tell you this. ;)

EDIT: sorry typo laptops are hard to type on.

I think the A64 would be worth the extra over the XP system. But If I were building an XP system now, it would be a MOBILE Barton 2600+ along with a DFI Infinity and some BH-5 PC3200/3500.

And that Gigabyte mobo you listed is an nForce2 - Socket A. The A64 3200+ is Socket 754

If you decide to go 64 bit and are looking for a motherboard I've heard good things about the k8v delux and have had no problems with it myself.

I would suggest going a cheaper route with an Abit NF7 or Asus A7N8X with a 2500+ Moble and overclock it to 2.4Ghz or higher. Theres no reason to buy the 2600+ cause the multi is unlocked.

Unlike the desktop Athlon XP's the mobile versions have to be able to run the speed at only 1.45v instead of 1.65v which leads them all to be great overclockers.

I would hold off on the A64 because there is some new technology getting ready to be released by Intel in the next 1-4 months and could make a real impact as far as performance goes with Prescott, PCI Express, and DDR2. Plus the A64 3700+ should be released by then and will bring down prices more hopefully for those of you that want AMD processors.

If i get a ABit Nf7 will it increase my performance in games or not make a difference at all. I have a FIC AM37 right now (sux) and would i get higher 3dmark scores if i get a ABit NF7. And i also have a 2400+ that is unlocked so im just gonna overclock that, but i would need a new mobo. Or i can get a AMD64 3200+ w/ 512 pc3200 ram, asus k8v deluxe, and a new case with a 425 watt PSU for about $581.00. Now will that abit increase my performace at all? or should i just wait and get the AMD64 in the summer?

I would say the Abit NF7 would give you a descent performance boost and help you to overclock alot better.

You've heard our opinions so you'll just have to decide for yourself what you want to do. We can't make up YOUR mind for you lol.
