Right now I am using a AMD Phenom X4 II Black Edition 3.2ghz, 4GB Corsair RAM, ATI 5770 1GB video card, 500GB Barracuda 7200RPM drive, and a Corsair 650W PSU. I'm looking for upgrade recommendations upcoming in Feb, I'll have around $1,000 to spend but of course I don't want to overdo my needs.

I'll be using the PC to play BF3, Skyrim, other Bioware games, Call of Duty, streaming video, iTunes, Blu ray.

My budget is $1,000 max.

I already have a Asus 24" monitor and I game at 1080x1020 res.

I don't plan on overclocking, I'm not very experienced with it and I am a rather casual user, I would however like to max out Skyrim and BF3, as right now I need to scale them down to medium settings to get smooth FPS performance.

You may need to clarify your motherboard (Manufacurer/Model), your RAM is it 1x4GB or 2x2GB or 4x1GB, what OS are you running and 32Bit or 64Bit ?

We also need to know the speed of your RAM, the specific model of your PSU, and how long you've had your PSU for.

When is the earliest that you plan on buying parts?

Maybe I can save you some money. Let me explain.

Long story short, unless your dying to upgrade or have money to burn all I think you need is a new video card. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but that AMD Phenom X4 is still more than capable for gaming.

you can read the rest of the story now if you want to. ;)

I've also been thinking about upgrading my system for the same games. However I don't have money to burn so after doing a bit of research I'm finding I most likely do not need to upgrade anything right now. I thought at the minimum I should upgrade my ram but then I read this thread:

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1646441&page=2

and on page 2 of the thread theNoid said this:

"I have 4GB of ram and am getting 55-60FPS with my rig on High everything, Ultra textures, 16xAF, no MSAA, AA PP High, HBAO on, motion blur on @1920x1200.

Had to overclock my 5850 to 820/1200 but it works like a charm. 11.10v3 drivers and 4GB of ram.

Did I mention 4GB of RAM?

I'm running
Core 2 Q9400
4gigs of ram
Radeon HD 6870

BF3 isn't maxed out but it looks fantastic at high settings. I haven't had time to load Skyrim but I don't thing it requires more hardware than BF3 to run at max settings.

Skyrim isn't optimized properly, so as a result it can end up eating more resources than BF3, particularly if you start using custom hi-rez texture packs and mods.
