Upgrade Questions

So ... here's the situation. Currently I have an 8800 GTX ... Q6600 @ 3.6, and 8 gigs ram. Talked to a couple of people and they are telling me going to an i7 920 and X58 board wont get me much of a boost in performance, but going from an 8800GTX to a better card will. I am now torn on weather to go to a GTX 295, GTX 275, or a GTX 260.

I am a casual gamer, like CS, COD 5 ... etc. Thoughts? I dont mind spending money, but I do mind wasting money. I am thinking a 260 would get me by for quite a while, and if so, what is the performance gain from a 8800GTX to a GTX 260 like?
 
I personally went from an 8800GTX to a GTX260 .... and the boost was night and day. It was definitely worth it. GTX295 is going to give you the biggest boost, but then again, I don't like the microstutter issue. I would say go with a GTX260 or GTX28x.
