Upgrade problems

Started upgrading my comp this morning, having serious problems though.

Prior specs:
Epox 8rda+
512Mb DDR Geil value
GF4 Ti4400 (Stopped working, tested in alternate system)
Barton 2500 333
Quantum Fireball 20.5Gb Hdd
Cheap 32x cdrom

Added:
512Mb DDR Giel value
80Gb WD Special Edition
Lite-On 52x32x52 CD-RW
GF FX 5200 (All I could afford for a replacement to Ti4400)

Installed Windows XP, put mobo disk in to install LAN and audio drivers, which seemed to go along just fine, then I was prompted to reboot to complete the installation. No problem, rebooted, that's when everything gets fucked up.

Bear in mind that I did already install XP.

Gets past the self-test, up to the point when the BIOS are looking for something to boot, I still had it set to boot the cd right away, got that "Invalid Boot disk" message, so I popped this disk out, pressed the "any" key;) and waited. Nothing happened for a few minutes, so I reset. After resetting, I went into the BIOS and switched the first boot back to the hard drive, reset again. When it got back to the boot search, it thought nothing was there and asked for a boot disk, since then I've stared installing XP about 10-15 times, never getting past the first required reboot.

Please help me, tell me what you think the problem is. I have even tried clearing the CMOS with no positive results.

What exactly is your current hard drive configuration?

Is the Western Digital the primary master, and are you trying to install Winxp on that drive?

Assuming that this is true, I would first swap out your IDE cable.

If that does not help, which I'm not optimistic about, make the Western Digital the slave and see if it behaves normally in a windows environment on another comp or however you determine it's best to set it up in a slave situation.

Actually, I'm trying to run the WD as a solo hard drive. But I'll give it a whirl the other way.

It works as a slave on my second comp, and I tried to install 98se on it, almost successfully, but the fucking disk was screwed up and wouldn't load all of the files. I'm having a similar problem with XP, when it copies the file for installation, it stops repeatedly to retry copying individual files. I've been trying to install this for two fucking days, I'M PISSED!

Oh yeah, and I called Microsuck to ask why their product wasn't loading correctly, they said I would have to call the retailer...

I actually have gotten to the blue "Installing Windows" screen, only to get this message : OBJECT NAME NOT FOUND

Here we go again
