Hi, I have a MSI 6380 v2 motherboard which uses Amibios V3.7 (the most up to date bios according to the MSI update program). The CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ and I got an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ to use as an upgrade. Both have a FSB of 266. After installing the new CPU the computer would not boot. Nothing at all came up on the screen, it remained blank! :(
So I re-installed the original CPU and everything is working again. :)
After some research I found that the 2400+ is a Revision B Athlon which uses a core voltage of 1.65v whilst the 1600+ has a core voltage of 1.75v.
The motherboard bios can raise the voltage from 1.75 up to 1.95 but I could not see anything about lowering it.
I reset the bios by moving the jumper from one set of pins to the other set for a while so that everything was back at the defaults but still the new CPU would not boot.
Any suggestions or advice is appreciated. Thanks.
