So now gainfully employed again... wondering if there are any worthwhile upgrades to my current rig..

Sitting on a i5 3570k (on antec kuhler.. running at stock speeds) w/ 16gb (ddr3 Dram freq 672mhz per cpuz) 9/9/9/24 clocks 2T command rate its PC3-10700H 667mhz.... And a 680GTX..

Primarily thinking about CPU/ram upgrade now..

Sitting on a Gigabyte g1 sniper m3 z77.

CPU no, GPU maybe, memory maybe but probably not.
You havent said what you do with with your PC and how you rate its current performance.

I would ask if you have an SSD yet, and otherwise just leave it alone, unless you are doing some very CPU-intensive work (games don't qualify, I'm talking servers or VMs and such). Also, DDR3 motherboard architectures don't let the RAM perform any better than DDR3-1333MHz at stock, unless you are doing some really unusual things. There's three Nvidia cards faster than the GTX 680 and another one or two rumored to come shortly, but at those prices you might as well wait for the GTX 800 series and get a more serious upgrade there.

By the way, your post says i5-3750K, but your sig says i5-3770K.

I see no reason why a RAM upgrade would be worth any amount of money.

Also even a 4770k wouldn't do a lot CPU wise. So unless you go IB-E then no, no upgrades.

Oops - Need to fix my sig.

Yeah I game primarily on this machine. I might do some video encoding occasionally. I do a moderate amount of adobe lightroom work for my photos (36mp photos from my d800) - which I feel like it is a bit laggy with. I've heard LR5 is better though... I use LR4 now.

I have a samsung 820/830? (the older black and orange) 256gb ssd.

I just have read conflicting things that the new intel cpus out now arent that much of a difference. I figured I'd wait for the 880 GTX.. but who knows when that will be out.

If you arent that unhappy with it, hang on.
Overclock your CPU, it will benefit minimum framerates, will help a few CPU limited games quite a bit and will benefit lightroom a lot.

There will be a small benefit in gaming and possibly for lightroom moving to DDR3 1800 or faster. Look out for ram bargains.
Although if you are likely to upgrade CPU/mobo in a year, it might not be worthwhile as you may need DDR4.

A GPU upgrade will give you the largest boost for gaming, made even better by overclocking your CPU.
Upgrade it when you cant hack your framerate any more.

Yeah Maxwell is due out in 2014 so wait for that GPU wise.

For a CPU upgrade you should really wait for Haswell-E or Skylake. The Haswell-E would shred through any video or photo work as long as the programs you use utilize them properly.

The only worthwhile upgrade would be adding another 680. We have very similar systems with the exception that I'm running a 3770k and adding my 2nd 680 was a nice boost in several games.

Your rig looks great as is IMO. Perhaps a 780 if your upgrade itch need scratching :)
