Here is my following setup:

Intel Pentium 4 3.06 (533)
Intel D875PBZ
1 Gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce FX 5900 Ultra
Audigy 2

My dilemma is whenever I turn up graphics in games, my system is starting to get a little sluggish, and its annoying the shit out of me. Would upgrading to an Athlon 64 do anything for me in turns of games?

If not the Athlon 64, or any CPU upgrade for that manner, is there any other upgrade that would better suit me in running games?
 
That system is FINE... sluggish could be a heat problem..

Try putting some more fans, or better yet, water cooling in your case.
 
Does anyone here have any links to benchmarks of my CPU and the Athlon 64?

I dont know about a heat problem, my processor never reaches above 50 c.
 
Lets put it like this...

A 64 bit system is going to cost you quite a few hundred...

is it really worth it? You probably won't see too much of an increase in performance than the system you have now.. I mean, 3 ghz 1 gig ram is fine.

It may be a software problem.. got the newest drivers for the vid card?

Or you could always get a 9800 pro.
 
Latest everything, and my system is on a very fresh install of XP Professional...

I hate when I can't play BF1942 at higher FSAA. Is this due to the fact that ATi is superior to Nvidia in terms of turning up FSAA?

Man that system is better than mine and I can play any game I want! Save your money, buy a better car, and get a girlfriend so your not woried so much about frame rates on bf1942.
j/k but really, save your money, wait 6 months a buy a 4Ghz or 4000+ dont waste $1000 on something that is going to up a setting in 1 game a little bit higher. You will get a lot more bang for your buck 6 months from now.

the difference is like 200 points. who cares. Wait and get something that will DOUBLE your performace

edit: and that is the processor benchmark the in-game benchmark shows less perfomance drop

No I wouldn't upgrade. At least not until we see the performance of PCI-E, 939, and LGA775.
 
Well if your going all out on FSAA and max res the 5900Ultra isn't the most powerfull card to do it.

Theres nothing wrong with your setup. Mines not to different from yours. Mines fine. Theres things you can do to tune performance. BIOS settings, overclocking your video card and so fourth. But if your going nuts on your game graphics tone it down a bit. 8x AA is way too much at 1600x1200.

I mean if I could get the 75+ frame rates I would at a lower res without FSAA than of course I would do it.

But an Athlon 64 won't do the job. It won't make enough difference to justify the cost. Besides HT is a an awesome thing. (BTW make sure it's turned on in BIOS.)
