Hi all!

My current PC is as follows:

350W Antec power supply
Asus P4S8X-X mainboard
P4 2.66 MHz
768 MB ram (512+256)
harddisk, burner, floppy (the standard stuff)
Gainward Geforce Ti4200 128 MB AGP video card

I am looking to upgrade the video card. My budget is somewhere around €200/US$250.
I don't really care if it's a NVidia or ATi based card. It should be able to play games like Rome: Total and GTA: San Andreas with decent quality and speed settings. Doesn't have to be the best but shouldn't be the worst either.

Recommendations wanted and welcome :)

I would look into a 6600GT OC card also there is a new geforce card coming down the line that is gonna be killer at this price point. I think about 20 days or so. I think it's gonna be called the geforce 6800GS. From what I've heard it can be modded to a 16 pipe 128MB 6800Ultra. It's supposed to have 128MB ddr 3 256bit. Also there is another card that is hard to find but it has great potential. It's called the x800GTO2. I have read the agp version can be modded to a X850XT PE.

Possibly something in the X800 like? Like the XL or Pro. Maybe even just plain X800.

If you dished out a little more you might be able to get a 6800GT. Or you could just get a 6800NU.

Don't buy this card thinking that you will be unable to unlck it. If you can unlock it, good, but there is no guarantee that it will unlock.

If you can find the x800xl or 6800gt for $250us I would get that. They are right at the boarderline in the US. If not the 6800nu 128MB (might get lucky and be able to unlock all 16 pipes for tad slower clocked 6800gt with half the ram) or the x800gto 256mb are your best bets.

PS. All these cards have pci-e version too so make sure you get the agp version

Definitely for either Rome: Total War or GTA:SA you should get a 6600gt. This works fine for me, but you also may want to look at that RAM situation you have there. 768 is such an awkward number IMO.

Thanks for the replies. What do you guys think about the following cards (all AGP versions):

Gainward GeForce 6600GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP8X, "Ultra/1980" Tv-out,DVI, Retail

Gainward GeForce 6800LE 128MB DDR AGP8X, Tv-Out, DVI, Retail

POINT OF VIEW GeForce 6800GX 128MB DDR AGP8X, Tv-Out, DVI, Retail

XFX GeForce 6600GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP8X, Tv-Out, Dual-DVI, Retail

6600GT/6800/6800GT are all good cards, depending on how much you want to spend :)

I was on same boat
i have a 2.8 p4 800 bus, asus p4p800deluxe mobo. 2gb ram, 250sata+120 ata hd's, 6800gt agp. Before i had a ti4200 1 week ago.
If u wanna crank everything max get the 6800gt for now, i found a evga $300 at new egg and theres a sale this week best buy has a 6800gt 0/c for $300.
before i couldnt runbattlefield 2 demo, now i can run at 1600x maxed out exept AA, and AF.
hl 2 I can run at max resolution with some AA and AF. 3d marks 05 i get bout 20-27 fps on demo 1. I still need to tweak my rig, gpu is running ar 50 C after 3 hrs of heavy gaming (dunno if its good) any how get urself a nice 6800 gt ill last u longer. Just remember to change mobo aperture to 256 mb for graphic card.

Make sure it has 256 of ram, since you have 768 on your system. It will cut down on stuttering.
