Need some upgrade advice gang.. Wanna stick with Intel.

Everything is great, but it's not running Battlefield 2 as well as I'd hoped for Can only play at 1024*768 medium settings... Was rockin Desert Combat at 1600*1200 high. Computer mainly used for browsing, photo editing/graphics stuff, PVR, and gaming (DC / BF2 now).

Current box:

P4 3.06HT @ 533
Gigabyte 8ihxp mobo (850E)
1gb 1066 rambus (4x256)
ATI AIW 800xt AGP

My current system is pretty stacked, but just not enough for the latest and greatest game.. I'm thinking going from 533 to 800fsb with 2g of ram and upping the CPU a bit should make for a nice improvement..

Suggestions?

Keep in mind current vid card is very good but AGP. I'd like to keep the all in wonder cause I do use the system for a lot of TV watching and recording, and I just picked it up recently at a great price.

-------
I was thinking instead of going to the latest generation, just getting a tried and true Asus P4C800-E, 2gb ram, and something like a 3.4ghz HT Northwood -- and keeping my current AGP vid card..

edit: now I'm thinking of the asus P5P800 (the lga775 board with AGP) and a P4 640 or 650..

decisions decisions..

Thanks!

Were it me, I would do this.

depends how much $$ you are willing to spend ? I would say maybe buy a P4 3.4ghz 800fsb, get a total of 2gb memory, and find a H.I.S. brand X850XTpe oc, then you should be set.

Or if you have even more ca$h to blow, I say get a 925XE motherboard, the Fatality, with a 3.6ghz P4, and purchase the 7800GTX, then you are set for Quake4, etc...

Yeah, sorry -- shoulda mentioned budget.....

Figure I can probably get around 4-5 hundred back from selling the mobo/ram/cpu i have now..

So maybe around $700.

Need a proc, 2gb ram, mobo ------ decided I'm gonna keep the current AGP vid card.. Will hold off on going to pci-e until I do a full rebuild.

First off get another 1gb memory, then maybe go to a P4 3.4ghz, and I have seen X850Xt's on sale at Fry's for $399, buy all of that and oc, and you should see anywhere from 10-20% faster in Bf2

Abit AS8 Mobo = ~75$
LGA775 530/630/540/640/820 = ~275$
1GB ValueRAM = 75$

Use youre X800XT AIW and youre HD's etc and youll have an uber system.
