well i was on the inquirer and found this

which in turn had a link to this

does anyone know what chip this is? because i've never seen anything like it (maybe i don't get out much :D )

sorry if this is old news

it looks like a dual core chip

another odd thing with this chip is the lack of a heat spreader which is rare for intel(only the mobile chips).

id bet on it being dual core
the inquirer guessed it could be a new Extreme edition chip however if you look at the bottom of the chip the layout makes me beleive it would be a dual core

an oddity indeed

How would that guy (the one who is selling it) obtain a dual core chip? They are not due out for a while..? right..?

What a stupid implementation if it is real. No wonder no one has their hands on this CPU, it's an engineering atrocity.

It's socket LGA775 for sure. Looks like a dual core processor. However, it could easily be fake. But I imagine that's what they'll look like for the most part when they do come out. Intel has stated that LGA775 will be here for awhile, and dual core chips will be released in that socket type.

Actually, the first dual-cores are due Q1 of 2005. There will be two different *series* of dual-cores in '05, one based on Prescott, and one based on Nocona (Prescott-2 and Nocona-2, respectively). However, dual-core and HT are mutually exclusive as far as the P4 go. The first single-core Noconas (the E0 stepping P4s) are shipping now in both LGA775 and S478 flavors. In LGA, they replace the same-speed Prescotts; in S478, they also replace the last Northwoods (C series) in addition to the Prescotts.

There *will* be overlap between Prescott and Nocona in LGA775; however, that won't be the case in S478.

Lastly, Northwood is Officially Dead.
