I have an 80 gig western digital hard drive, with NTFS that I was running windows XP on and I was getting weird errors so I had decided to just format and reinstall XP. Well when I try to install windows xp I get an error message saying set up cannot access drive. I tried formatting it through the boot up disk and with the recovery console but it said C was an invalid drive path. I also tried formatting it with a windows 98se and 98se boot up disk but I also get a disk error. The hard drive is detected by the bios and if i put the hard drive in another system I can see the drive in the device manager but nowhere else. I read something about initializing the drive but the drive's not listed in the drive manager. Is my hard drive dead? I can't think of anything else to do, if anyone can suggest something to get the drive working it'd be much appreciated. I already RMA'ed the drive and I've gotten a replacement but I still have 3 weeks to return this one and I'd like to format it and give file scavenger a shot at my old data. So someone please offer me hope with another solution, I don't wanna be another statistic.
