I am thinking about getting Dell's 2405 LCD display.
It looks great

but the only problem I have with it is that it has no speakers.
So then I thought it would be great to have a set of nice 5.1 headset to hook up to my PC AND my dvd player at the same time (I don't want to plug and unplug it whenever I wanna switch ya know!)

is there any way I can do this?
reccomend any headsets?
if I want REAL 5.1 surround from a DVD do i need a reciever to code the sound?

Just want to clarify:
So you have a separate stand-alone DVD player along with a PC that you want to use a pair of headphones with? Why not use the PC as the DVD player if you're going to be watching it on the Dell LCD? Another option is to output the audio from the DVD player to the sound card's line-in. Your headphones can just stay plugged into the soundcard.

What's your budget for a pair of headphones?

Just a word of caution - 5.1 headphones do not produce "REAL 5.1 surround".

or are you saying it doesnt even sound real


I dont want to use my PC for DVDs because it's very loud and I dont want to boot it up to play a DVD

my budget for a headset would be maybe 100 or 150 dollars US

I have a Sound blaster audigy 2---will that allow me to plug my DVD audio into it? also if the DVD sound is plugged into the sound card, does that mean I need to turn my comp on to use the DVD player audio? will i still get 5.1 on the DVDs without a reciever?

If you really want 5.1 headset, your best bet is probably the Medusa 5.1. From most of the reviews, this headset great deal for its price. The Medusa 5.1 doesn't fix issue of getting a good center, but it has much better sound quality than other 5.1 headsets. The price is $125, so it is just in your range.
 
What jpmkm is saying is twofold:

1) It's not 5.1. 5.1 means having 5 speakers and a subwoofer. Obviously, the headphones will not have 5 drivers (they'll have an even number) and won't have a subwoofer.

2) If you look for either sound quality or positioning, you'll find that a quality pair of headphones/headset will give you just as good a spacial sense as any "5.1" headset- the drivers are such that you can quite easily tell positioning. There's a reason why the serious gamers out there use Senns, not 5.1 gimmicks.
