Unique Hard drive issues when copying

Recently purchased a 4tb and 5 tb seagate.. I am currently copying about 4 tb of steam games onto a 5tb seagate both on Sata on my mobo

Also at the same time i am copying about 4tb of movies mkv, avi etc onto 5tb seagate


Started transfer last night and my computer has sat and done nothing but copy the files.
So i am trying to figure out why i am getting anywhere from 222kb to 65mb/s both transfers fluctuate up and down.
I am assuming all drivers are installed , no raid just asus drivers. How can i verify ?
any ideas why it is taking almost 24 hours to transfer about 7tb of information on to the new drives.

Everything is sata to sata on the mobo.
 
My guess would be bad sectors on either the old or new drives.

If they are tons of small files they take quite long because of the way the filesystem writes the files and because hard drives have very slow access speeds in general.
 
How are you copying the files? Windows Explorer is not very smart about it. If I'm doing it from Explorer, I use TeraCopy. If I'm using it from the command prompt - robocopy works well.

Definitly not it. All drives are 100% in hard drive sentinel

Please educate me what program I need to use to make future large transfers . Am I suppose to clone in a dos environment ? Avoid windows all togeather ? I noticed teracopy and robocop. Which one if I decide to transfer 1tb plus

I am reading fast copy is one of the best out there.. I would like to know what's the best paid software with a nice UI that is reliable . I've used acronis
What do you think?

using teracopy 3.0 pro

Looks like it will now take 5.7 hours to copy 3.23 tb to my 5tb hard drive.

I enabled use system write cache and always test after copy
is this ok?

just notice teracopy is transferring files is averaging around 165mb/s and peaking at 172mb/s between a 4tb/5tb seagate drive.

I was just curious "always test after copy" does this create the MD5 or does it take another 6 hours to verify? Wondering if i should leave this option off?

I'm interested to know the answer to your question, personally I check manually (CRC32).

Your transfers were slow because they were done concurrently. Personally I use SuperCopier2 as a copy tool, and queue everything to avoid such problems, you can also reorder the copied files on the fly, pause if needed, etc.

I am starting to think cloning a drive in a dos environment is much faster

but since no one with experience can chime in , i will most likely be leaning towards this option since i am transferring 3-5 tb per drive

that probably the right answer.

Another thing to check is what SATA port did you plug it into? Not sure what version of Maximus VII you have, but there is Hero, Formula and Gene, some of the SATA ports are Intel and some are third party for example Asmedia.

Intel is more reliable then Asmedia ports.

Yes, cloning can be faster, using either Ghost or Acronis.

If you use ghost you have to use "-align=1mb" argument to properly align the drive, all new hard drives use advance formatting.
 
I am testing out paragon 15 in recovery windows pe to do a drive copy. My 4tb info is being moved to 5tb. Still preparing the last 10 min.. Badically checking file system integrity. So 15min later not even a estimate time of completion. Can anyone tell me how much time i can save going thos route vs using terracopy. I believe took around 8 hours to copy and move 4tb to a new hdd
 
Tools like TeraCopy basically make a queue and copy just 1 file at a time. I thought it also did some error checking when copying, but am not 100% positive about this.
I use TeraCopy for moving files up maybe 20GB in size. I have never tried moving larger amounts of data. I think you and other posters are write - disk->disk transfer tools would probably be faster for something like this.
I'm curious to see what other people recommend and your results.

I used Samsung's SSD clone tool to move the OS from an 80GB drive to a 120GB SSD. I think that took about 40-50 minutes using an esata connection. Of course, you are transferring over a lot more data than I did with this tool Assuming the Samsung tool is basically something like Ghost.

Great program awful estimate time of completion when it came to cloning 4 tb of data

Basically just finished took 4 hours and 45 min and the whole time it said it had 30-45 min left.

Please tell me a better program that can be used that will give accurate times of completion when imaging or cloning large hard drives. I WILL not go raid to make my data transfers faster ....
Anyway just wanted to let everyone know teracopy pro was a good program, not sure if I should trust it since it's not sector by sector, not sure how to match up the md5 and did not see crc checks in this version in the log when copying. Paragon 15 had a nice UI and recovery in windows PE but was an awful experience since I did not know when the progress was at or going to finish . I believe PC MAG did a review and mentioned the same thing. To me this program is crap and will not use it if it can't give the user the ETC. Anyway

Any recommendations of better cloning software out there ? I heard Casper 8.0 is good?
