unexpected shutdown under system load

I just finished building a computer for a friend of mine. it boots and runs and has windows xp professional on it. but for some reason when he downloads anything it causes windows to fuck up and restart. any ideas on what the problem is? its an x-dreamer case off new egg. it has 3 case fans. front side and top. i have mbm 5 installed on it and the processor stays around 35-40 degrees. it has an athlon 2400+ in it with a 3200 compatiable heat sink. the mb is a shuttle which has worked in the past. it has two 512 sicks of pc 2700 generic RAM from new egg and a 120 gig hard drive. theres no way it could be a defective hard drive or ram? it only restarts when you download something onto the hard drive or when you open windows explorer to browse the hard drive.

i just replaced the motherboard on that computer and installed the drivers for it. in doing so i also reformated and re-installed windows xp. but for some reason it still shuts down every so often. anyone have any ideas? i cant remember what the screen says exactly when its shutting down but its the screen that comes up if you replace hardware but try and use an old windows installation. please help because my friend is becoming very discouraged with the whole process.

I would switch out the RAM with another brand and see what happens. Thats about all I can think of from your explaination you gave.
 
the obvious question is "are you overclocked at all?"
if not then get do a repair using the xp disc.

if that doesnt solve yr probs , try a dif ram stick.

and if that doesnt do it , get a remote temp probe and VERIFY
that the proc is is around 40c or so
