Hi, this may be the wrong forum to ask in as its HARD forum but anyway, here are my specs:

System:

Mobo: Asus Maximus iv gene-z
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
Ram: Corsair 2x4GB 1866 Vengance
GPU: Palit GTX 560 TI

Settings:

Bus: 100mhz
Multi: x32
CPU Voltage: 1.10V
CPU PLL: 1.50V
VCCSA: 1.05V
Memory: 1.35V
PCH Voltage: 1.06v

My old board was an Asus p5k-vm and iv paid no attention to the "i" series of chips so the bios in this have a whole heap of options im not used to. Im looking to get the lowest possible volts for the ram running at 1600mhz and the cpu running at 3200mhz.

Do those settings look OK and for settings like CPU PLL and VCCSA whats the lowest i can safely go and whats the best way to check my settings (is it still a run of PRIME) ?

you can not (physically) damage things by undervolting them. the computer may become unstable or nor boot, but it wont be the same as overvolting and overheating something.

so the answer is- as low as you can get them while being stable. however you define "stable" is up to you. a few hours of a benchmark like prime, linx or a number of others would work.
 
Excellent, i just wanted to make sure as my cpu now has a gpu built in that i cant even switch off, what the **** has happened to my fsb (that's how i overclocked, to hell with multipliers) and there's a ton of options iv never heard of before in the bios etc, etc

775 was so much simpler.:D

I don't get it. With FSB overclocking, you had to mess around with CPU multipliers, RAM multipliers, and a host of other multipliers in addition to voltage. With 1155, all you have to mess with is CPU multiplier and CPU voltage.

I think you're just overthinking things, and should think simpler instead of more complicated.
 
The bios on my p5k-vm were pretty basic, this has a lot more stuff on it to tweak. Im liking it so far apart from the fact you cant really change the bus speed and the boot up time has increased.

Air cooling the cpu with a zalman cnps11x extreme and a noiseblocker m12-s1 instead of the fan that came with it and im getting 34c @idle and 45c at load (those are the highest individual core temps). Pretty chuffed but hopefully i can get it lower than that with some more tweaking (got side tracked by Dead Island)
 
They need to rename it too "MediumForum" or "QuiteHardForum" and introduce an underclocking section and instead of the extreme cooling section have a gently quiet cooling section.:p

I used to overclock like mad trying to get every last mhz but i now try for a quiet pc. All 5 of my pc fans should hopefully be under 10db each and my pc is in a cupboard in my desk as i cant stand the noise of pc's (hence the need for low volts to keep it cool)

lol. Well i have been doing what i want with it and im pretty pleased with the results. Iv tweaked it to the following:

Bus: 100mhz
Max Multi: x32
CPU Voltage: 1.05V @ 3200MHz
CPU Voltage: 0.85V @ 1600MHz
CPU PLL: 1.40V
VCCSA: 1.05V
Memory: 1.35V
PCH Voltage: 1.06V
C1E: Enabled

Highest individual core temp is 44c when playing a game and 50c after an hour of LinX.

At idle the coolest core is 27c and the hottest is 37c is that normal for there to be a 10c difference?
 
yeah its normal.. the temp sensors intel uses get more and more inaccurate the lower the temp is.. anything over 50 is accurate, anything under 50 take with a grain of salt.
 
As i got an i5 2500k, maximus iv gene z, 8GB corsair 1866 vengance and a Grow Up Japan Smart Drive Neo hard drive silencer all brand new for £320.

Couldn't pass that up, plus at idle my cpu should be roughly 20w and at load 60w. I don't think you can buy a low power chip that's this fast. Your better of buying more than you want and undervolting it.
