Ultimate Watercooling Case

Seems kinda overpriced for the build quality. I still like the PC-7077a best. Aluminum, lots of room, lots of flexibility, and best of all, a lian-li.
 
How can I say this...

HELL YES

I have the older 3x80mm rear/ 80-120 front version (AKA Enermax XP901) and my first watercooling rig was built in it. These cases are absolutely perfect. Especially if you have a 5.25" bay resevoir with screws on the bottom; you can attach it directly to the bottom of the case.

What they don't show you in those pictures is that there should be a 120mm punchout in front as well. That may not be the case on the 981, but it should be. This case hasn't seen any major mechanical revisions since 1994 or thereabouts. Just bigger fans and better construction.
 
This I-Star looks like it has a lot more room to work with. I planned on modding the case a whole lot as well, including a double radiator on the top and installing a window myself. There are enough 5.25 bays to mount a 2x 5.25 reservoir, 4x HDD's with water blocks, and an optical drive with no drive cage in front of the bottom 120mm intake fan, were I could use that space for the pump. All that and still have 2 5.25 bays left over. I'm thinking a 2x 5.25 LCD screen there to monitor temps.

I promise to post a work log. I think I just convinced myself.:p
 
Well - if you plan on modding at a lot, then I guess the I-Star would be more fun, because the thermaltake is pretty pre-modded... and the I-Star is bigger. Good find there. Have fun!
 
Perfect (sensible) WC case: GigaByte Aurora with stock room for a 2x120mm radiator and hole for tubing to go to external components.

Absolute best if you've got the room & money: Mountain Mods U2-UFO with 7 :)eek:!) 120mm fan mounts and the room of two cases for holding everything you could possibly want. U2-UFO=dream ;)

Paint = wrong, Anodized = correct

Total shit = wrong, Durable finish that outlasts anything you can shake at it for $50 or less = correct

Have to get the case "painted" = wrong, Available anodized option if desired = correct



How many times we gonna hear this? If you dont own one, dont speculate, if you dont know, research the matter... If you still insist on spewing others opinions, state so (ie I heard from a person from a person who heard in a chat room, that the painting on the available cases from MM might not be up to snuff. Make sure you check it out before you buy I reccomend) That should be your comment... Be objective fellas, not spurting out negative comments you know nothing about...

just as an aside..in the newegg images for the server case, the text on the box that says "SERVER CASE" is really funny. i don't know why.

No matter what anyone here says; the Istar/Enermax has the most room to work with, period. Now granted, you may need to do a lot more work, but that's besides the point.
The fact is that in terms of usable cubic feet, there are only one case which has more cubic feet - the Enermax FS2300 sorta-cube.
The sheer open space of the 981XPS is what makes it one of my favorite cases, though I prefer the 901/910's since I weld and they have 2mm+ steel. There simply is no case with more open space. You can put half a dozen DD pumps on the bottom of the case, still have room for more, and not touch the bottom of the motherboard. You can stuff 15 SATA drives in there with room left over, and no worries about cooling. The cooling is amazing for something this size; because hot air rises (duh), and cold air sinks (also, duh), the layout is simply perfect for workstations. My 910, which is all 80mm fans, has no trouble keeping a Tbird 1GHz under 45C at 1.33GHz using just a Volcano 6Cu. (Not even a Cu+.)

The only catch here is that you don't want to waste your time on ordinary watercooling pumps, unfortunately. You need serious head capability from the pump; ... wow that sounded really bad. But it is what you need; when I built my first watercooled 910, I used a pond pump with a 10' head. Pay careful attention, and measure out everything beforehand.

Those MM cases look like YY cube cases with a whole bunch of 120mm holes... for about $100 extra... ??? does anyone else see anything wrong with that?

Actually, the cases are NOT anodized. They are powder coated. And the finish looks EXCELLENT. Sorry to dig up the old thread, but I've just been searching for UFO pics...
 
After not having enough space in my old watercooled rig, I'd say go for it. I wish I'd had that kind of space when I had that pc.
 
Jusr a little info on MM UFO. The cases standard finish is either brushed aluminum or read and black powder coating, no paint at all. As for it being a yy cube, that's a big nope, the complete case only weights in a 15 lbs and it's 100% aluminum. They have room for 9 HD and either 5 or 10 5.25 drives depending on which model you get.
As for the interiour room, I just figured it compared to the 901, where the 901 has 4150 sq. In if inside space and the MM UFO has 5832, so some folks need to get their fact straight.
The case is very expensive, it is not intented for school kids. You get what you pay for.
 
Like what was said before though. You need a serious pump if your going to watercool with that thing. Unless you run really close lines and keep everything low. But I doubt most people are going to do that.
 
That chen is no where near as large as the I-star. I had one. My WC stuff didn't fit. Now I have a larger full tower case. Its still too small for what I work with. I'm actually thinking about the I-star.
 
id say get the TT Armor also. i have that case and although i only use air cooling, it could easily accomodate a watercooling set up with no problem. the case is even designed for watercooling...i know there is a lot of TT bashing around these forums, but i really like the case.

All you need for a pump is a simple Swiftech MCP655/Laing D5, or even the tiny MPC350/Laing DDC, 12 volt pumps with higher head than most computer water cooling pumps out on the market.

MCP350:
Nominal head (@ 12 V) 13.05 ft (4 m)

MCP655:
Maximum head 10 ft (3.1 m)
 
Yeah and my heatercore barely fit along the front panel in that case... You can't put hd's in the normal spots if you use the dual...

Really, I don't see a problem with a heater core on the front of the UFO. Took ZERO mods for my install.................. :D What sort of problem did you have........... :eek:

So I personally don't see a problem mounting a heater core anywhere in the case.
