Grr. I was surfing the web, listening to some music, then I smell a rancid burning sort of smell, thinking it was my lunch, I go to the oven, but no, its not burning. My geek senses tingled, and I ran back to my computer. I attempted to close all my programs and shutdown, but before I could my computer DIED. The power LED on the case still glowed green. So I unplug the PSU from the wall, then plug it back in and hit the power button. It lived, until just after the BIOS screen, then it dies again, with the power light still glowing, and the computer not responding to the restart button or power button.

I do not have any parts to switch out, except I can probably get my hands on an older video card to switch in. Nothing was overclocked.

Any thoughts on what it might be? I tried to smell the source, but I cant pinpoint it. The whole case smells like burning.

It could be many things. Do you hear any beeps when you boot up?

PSU
Overheating CPU
RAM going bad

etc...
 
There are no beeps. I doubt it is the PSU, as it still boots, just doesn't get past the BIOS screen at all, so basically a 3 second boot, then it dies. And the power LED stays green, and the powerbutton and reset button do nothing.

Edit: Removed the video card, and tried to boot it again, and I got many beeps. Looking up the beep codes right now :)

Edit 2: Going to try swapping in that older Video Card, hopefully it will work. :)

Edit 3: The old video card was I guess to old, it used a different type of AGP slot. So I tried it without video card and using integrated video after clearing BIOS. It booted, then gave me the video error beep code. So i put my video card back in, it booted perfectly, got to the windows "safe menu" thing, tried last known good configuration.. Hit enter, bam, Computer died. It wont boot up anymore at all. The power LED just glows green, no fans spin, nothing. I'm thinking the Mobo and CPU are fried...
