Ubuntu, Hyper-V and Network

Hello everyone.

I've got a server 08 Sr box running hyper-v and so far just 1 ubuntu server vm. I was able to get everything working as needed, but I seem to have 1 issue that I've started seeing.


I say randomly but it could be when under load, the network adapter completely loses connection with everything, can't even ping local devices. If I reboot the vm everything comes back just fine no problems. Its a game server so a lot of packets being sent back n forth and some players say they start to notice small instances of lag within minutes of us losing the connection.


I have another physical box (intel atom) I ran this on before for a couple months without issue to test the software before virtualizing it...


If this because its not officially supported? Would switching to the free esxi or vmware server correct any of these issues?
 
hmm well I figured since it worked I didn't have to worry about it but now that makes sense... I've heard there is a performance loss doing it that way would it effect things much?
 
Chances are you wont notice the performance difference.

With the regular NIC it uses Intel VT-x so its more efficient. Unless you put it under intense load you shouldnt notice significant difference in NIC performance.
 
Same machine, but I noticed this twice now (just looked today)

Obviously it's labeled as critical, but what's it mean? Is it a software thing or is my processor screwing up ?

It's happening atleast every other day, locks the server up, I can't save the content from the server software.


the software saves it's information every so often, if it locks up and the chunks aren't saved it corrupts the world.



is there any way to figure out what causes it? if it continues I have to scrap the whole project, uptime and stability are the most important
 
Just the Enterprise is supported, but i would assume that OpenSUSE is a very close cousin.

And much less support for whitebox hardware. But I agree, if you are going to be doing a lot of linux vms, then Hyper-V is not the way to go.
